TARANTO ALEATORIO

Samuel Lefeuvre & María del Mar Suárez “La Chachi”
Wednesday July 22nd · 22:00 h Carpa Vertebra Dansa

Synopsis

Two pieces will be presented:
Samuel Lefeuvre presents delves into non-anthropocentric choreographic practices to withdraw from the audience’s sight never to reappear. Inspired by the figure of the Zombie and what it generates in the collective imagination: symbol of a lobotomized humanity following a survival instinct without question, a life form connected to notions of decay and compost, and arguably the only “human” life form with a zero-carbon footprint. María del Mar Suárez, La Chachi, presents an excerpt from Taranto Aleatorio, a stage research project inspired by the taranto, a flamenco style originating from the mining region of Almería. Beginning with the rawness of traditional singing —without instrumentation and emerging from silence— the piece explores the encounter between dance and voice as a space open to chance and transformation. While respecting the structure of the flamenco tablao, the work embraces the unexpected as a creative force: irreverent gestures, humour, mistakes, and surprise are woven into both the choreographic and vocal development.

Biography

Samuel Lefeuvre trained in dance in Caen and at the CNDC in Angers. He settled in Brussels in 2001. He worked with Michèle Anne De Mey’s company, then with Les Ballets C. de la B., where he met Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier, who invited him to join Peeping Tom. In 2007, he co-founded the group ENTORSE with musician Raphaëlle Latini. He has also collaborated with Jérôme Bel (at the Avignon Festival in 2014) and with Boris Charmatz/TERRAIN. Since 2012, he has been creating works together with Florencia Demestri within their company DEMESTRI & LEFEUVRE.

María del Mar Suárez, La Chachi, is an actress and flamenco dancer. She graduated in both disciplines in her hometown of Málaga. After specializing in flamenco with La Lupi and training in physical theatre, new dramaturgies, and contemporary dance, she discovered her true passion: the fusion of all these disciplines. From that moment on, she developed a voracious desire to immerse herself in the unique and genuine hybrid language that defines her work.
